The Homesman – the western with an all star cast that you never heard of.

I found this on Netflix. I never heard of it. Hillary Swank and Tommy Lee Jones for Christ sake.

It was pretty good too.

Hard, unfriendly land. Hillary is a bad ass who is too plain looking and bossy to get married. She has land and money though. Three other women in her little community go crazy, and she is elected to take them home.

Tommy Lee joins, and helps negotiate the harsh road trip. Indians, weather, and criminals dot the landscape.

It’s sad, funny, and a moving testament to the women of the old west. Their stories don’t get told often enough.

I liked it. Fuck you and your mysoginistic ass if you don’t…..

A MINUS

The minus is because I didn’t like the ending…..why kick the headstone in the river ? One final nihilistic push? Life sucks? Then you die? And no one gives a shit?

Yea, I guess so…………..

The Hunt – depressing Danish film about really shitty kids and the havoc they create…..

we all celebrate children. their innocence. Their beauty…..

But kids are not worldly and wise and can sometime miss interpret images and how they relate to the adults around them. And in our all consuming desire to protect children, we mis interpret what they are trying to say, and horrible results can happen.

Great guy…small Danish hunting village…..kindergarten teacher…..cute little girl gets irritated with him……tells another teacher she does not like him because he has a penis that points straight up in the air like a rod……what she didn’t say, is that she accidentally saw her big brothers porno the day before….

Bedlam erupts…..

The guys life is destroyed, and nothing will ever be the same…..the stigma of child molester will never leave him……

Hey, merry Christmas!

The Quiet Ones – the horror movie that has a title that makes no sense

The quiet ones are only mentioned once the entire movie. A student outside of the research group referred to those that were in it, as the quiet ones……it makes no sense….

Little girl…..foster care…..house to house…..everywhere she goes, bad shit happens…….the good doctor rescues her……tries to fix her…..assumes all the evil manifestations are her own brain working over time……he refuses to believe that there is actually a real demon fucking shit up.

Then, everyone dies…..except for the camera man…..but he goes crazy…..put in a mental institution…..and all the deaths are blamed on him…,,

This movie has every bad cliche in it. My favorite is, BASED ON A TRUE STORY……..the key word being BASED………I’d love to know the true story……I’m sure there were plenty of Oxford professors that banged their own students in the name of research……so there is plenty to draw from…..

Here is the wiki synopsis:

Wish I Was Here – Zach Braffs Kickstarter movie – Rich people shouldn’t ask for money to make art…..

David Choe is a rich artist. Facebook paid him well. He does not ask for money to fund his podcast/travelouges/porn star podcasts etc…..

Zach Braff is also a rich artist. I dont care what anyone says, SCRUBS money is nothing to laugh at.

I give him an A for determination though. He thought of something, and followed through with it.

The movie was a sweet ride, down modern Jewish lane. He is a struggling actor…..with an incredibly hot wife…..His kids are beyond cute….and his grandfather is dying.

Its all just a little too sweet though. The lines are all a bit contrived. Embracing who you are, with all your super cute idiosyncrasies, is a little too “Little Miss Sunshine” you know?

As a fan of movies, i understand how incredibly difficult it would be to make a film. I respect the man for that. But there is something wrong with asking the American public to financially support your artistic vision. Especially if you have money.

I wish i had the knowledge to articulate why i feel this way. It just seems wrong. If you want to make a movie, then make it. Don’t beg for spare change at the intersection of the internet.

C PLUS

It is a watchable ride……saccharine sweet…..

Detachment – Adrian Brody in a well written DEPRESSING AS FUCK assessment of education in America

jesus Christ……this movie had it all……child abuse, young female prostitutes being used and abused, uncaring parents, physcotic kids, and the declining public education system in America…

School teacher is sad about his life, and the state of life in general….for himself and all the kids he sees in the broken inner city school he teaches at…..it’s bleak….

There was a small bright spot in the story arc where he saves a young prostitute from a life on the streets, but that’s it.

There is a great monologue in the middle about the desensitized marketing today, where women are objects that I thought was really moving……

There is a ton of people in it….

Bryan Cranston had a small roll, and had this to say in an interview 2012:

In March 2012, actor Bryan Cranston was asked about Detachment during an interview. The reporter told Cranston he loved the movie and then started to ask his question. “Wait”, Cranston said, “did you like Detachment?”. The reporter said again that he loved it, and Cranston seemed surprised. “I haven’t seen it”, Cranston told the assembled press. “I’m surprised to hear that actually”. When asked to clarify, he continued, “Because I felt that Carl Lund, the writer of Detachment, wrote a really beautiful, haunting script. And I didn’t feel that it was honored. I was upset with that. I really was. And so I didn’t see the movie”. He sighed, resigned and continued, after searching for the right way to phrase himself: “Tony Kaye is a very complicated… interesting fellow. I don’t believe that I’ll be working with him again. I didn’t not get along with him on a personal level. But I just honor the writing. I really think that writing is the most important element there is. It is the springboard. It is where everything starts. And if you don’t honor that – which I didn’t feel it was – then where are you? And I’m not the only actor on that film to feel that way.”[16]

So there ya go……

B PLUS…..

it’s a nihilistic vision…….like true detective season 1…..life is meaningless….and we are all just trying to get through it while minimizing the pain……the best you can hope for is raising some productive kids…..and it looks like that is going south for all of us………

The Prince – formula is all there, what the fuck happened?

bruce Willis is a crime boss…..

John Cusack is a former mafia hit man…

Jason Patrick is a former mafia hit man….

Creepy Japanese cold blooded assistant…….

It’s all based in New Orleans….the gritty backstreets of the 9th ward…..

Hell, even 50 cent is a crazy drug dealer……

All the ingredients for a perfect, action packed, super cool, mafia , drug fueled, extravaganza….

What happened?

It turned into a steaming pile of shit…..slow….lackluster…bad storytelling….shitty acting…..cash grabbing actors….fucked …fucked…fu kid……

Critical response

The film has been met with negative reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a rating of 0% based on 9 reviews.[7] On Metacritic, the film has a score of 17 out of 100, based on 6 critics, indicating “overwhelming dislike”.[8]

D MINUS..

Maybe Bruce Willis had some back child support due or something….

John Cusack is spending too much time doing graffiti with David Choe?

Jason Patrick was probably just bored……

Is movie was shit….

Banks Does New York – HBO doc about Banksy’s 30 day rebel residency in NYC

i learned of Banksy after listening to David Choe’ s podcast DVDASA. The world of rebel street art and graffiti is cool. It’s punk rock of the art world.

Real art critics dismiss the Banksy’ s of the world, for being too simplistic. For hitting you over the head with their message. True art , they argue, should be sublime…..should be thought provoking,…..mysterious……and only seen in art galleries where a tie is required to walk in. Well fuck that.

Banksy , and dave Choe, and all artists like them, bring art to the people. To the common man.

And it’s beautiful.

War is wrong.

Art is beautiful.

Stop being greedy fucking dickheads.

That’s what Banksy is telling us.

Don’t kill innocent people for no good reason. Stop trying to make a buck off the blood sweat and tears of others.

Be nice you fucking dickheads!!!

A PLUS

God bless Banksy, dave Choe, and all those like them. The crazy thought provoking rebels……Godspeed gentlemen……

This is Where I Leave You – all star cast—Jesus, look at all the players in this……

So when there is this much talent, look at that pic above ……..Jesus……how could you make a bad movie? You can’t…….too much star/ cool power up in that motherfucker…..

What you can make with all that star power, is a solid mediocre movie…..that’s what happened here….

It’s worth a watch…..because ….well fuck….look at that pic again…….of course it’s worth a watch….

Boy catches wife cheating……

Boy’s father dies….

Boy has to go to childhood home and be with his family…

Boys siblings are all fucked up.

Boys mom turns out to be a lesbian……

There….,now you know…..

There are some laughs here…..but the sugary sweet sentiments are hard to take……

B MINUS

Up In The Air – George Clooney – cool life, meant to be depressing , but I’m jealous

hey I get it…..family is important….but to a guy that has been married with children for 25 years, a little time with “nothing in my backpack” sounds like what the doctor ordered……

Clooney works for a company that flies him around the country firing people for a living….345 days on the road….it gets to the point where the airplane is his home….

After his sister gets married , and he finds out his girlfriend is living a double life with a family of her own, he sees the importance of family connections…..but then he keeps flying….and traveling…

The last line , that is supposed to make you sad for him…..”the star you see from your family backyard, is his wing tip passing over”, just made me jealous ….I could use some alone time….

B PLUS….

Anna Kendrick is in it too…so watch this bitch
